Daming’s Competitive Edge in Ultra-Large Grinding Mill Manufacturing

Recently, multiple semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) mill and ball mill projects have been progressing at Daming’s Jingjiang manufacturing base. With projects spanning different equipment types, complex manufacturing requirements and tightly scheduled deliveries, Daming has been coordinating engineering, production and logistics across the entire process to maintain consistent quality and reliable project execution.

Daming’s capabilities are particularly well suited to the manufacture of ultra-large grinding mills with diameters exceeding 10 meters. The Jingjiang base can process grinding mills up to 12.5 meters in diameter and brings together material supply, fabrication, heat treatment, machining, surface treatment and logistics within an integrated manufacturing system. This enables Daming to maintain closer control over the quality and dimensional accuracy of large components while reducing the coordination challenges typically associated with multi-site production.

For large mill shells weighing hundreds of tons, materials can be supplied directly to the manufacturing site through Daming’s established cooperation with leading steel producers. High-strength wear-resistant steels are selected according to project requirements, while incoming material, fabrication and subsequent processing remain under unified quality control.

The integrated production setup also provides greater flexibility when handling multiple projects simultaneously. Processes including cutting, beveling, rolling, welding, sectioning, heat treatment, coating and machining can be coordinated within the same manufacturing base. This allows production schedules to be adjusted according to project priorities and helps keep large equipment packages on track for synchronized delivery.

Keeping major manufacturing processes within one site also reduces the risks associated with fragmented subcontracting and repeated transportation. For large mill shells, this helps minimize potential dimensional deviations and deformation while giving project teams direct visibility over production progress. Combined with around-the-clock capacity coordination, the approach provides greater control over delivery schedules for large and complex equipment.

Engineering collaboration is integrated into the manufacturing process as well. Daming works closely with customers on technical requirements, process planning and manufacturing execution, connecting engineering decisions with shop-floor production and logistics. This supports a more coordinated project delivery model for large-scale mining applications and contributes to the development of integrated solutions such as the Ironloop ore-return route.

Daming’s manufacturing and port operations are also closely connected. Large components can be transferred directly from the manufacturing base to waterborne transportation, reducing intermediate handling and allowing manufacturing and logistics schedules to be coordinated more efficiently. This integrated factory-to-port model is particularly valuable for oversized equipment and components that require specialized transportation arrangements.
