Anemoi Marine Technologies, CRRC Qishuyan and Daming Heavy Industry celebrate the delivery of four Rotor Sails, now being transported by barge to COSCO Zhoushan Shipyard for installation.
Anemoi, together with its production partners CRRC Qishuyan Institute and Daming Heavy Industry, celebrated the successful completion, assembly and testing of Rotor Sails destined for installation on U-Ming Maritime Transport’s Very Large Ore Carrier (VLOC) M/V Grand Pioneer. The delivery ceremony marks a major milestone as the Rotor Sails leave the production base and are transported by barge to COSCO Zhoushan Shipyard for installation.

Wind propulsion plays a significant role in maritime decarbonisation. For example, Anemoi’s system has achieved real savings of 1.4 tonnes of fuel per Rotor Sail per day.
Speaking at the ceremony, Anemoi’s Chief Commercial Officer, Nick Contopoulos, highlighted the significance of the milestone: “The successful development and delivery of these Rotor Sails is the result of relentless R&D, precise fabrication, and strong support from our upstream and downstream partners. The manufacturing and direct shipment from our new manufacturing base (within Daming Heavy Industry) reflects our long-term commitment to localising production and scaling innovation. This milestone also supports China’s dual carbon strategy and contributes to the green transformation of global shipping.”
With the Rotor Sails now on their way by barge to COSCO Zhoushan Shipyard, Anemoi will continue to provide full-service support during installation, commissioning, and operational deployment, ensuring the systems deliver maximum efficiency in real-world maritime conditions.

The ceremony also reinforced collaboration across the maritime industry, highlighting the combined efforts of manufacturers, research institutes, and innovators in driving forward sustainable ship technology. As more vessels integrate wind-assisted propulsion, Rotor Sails are poised to become a cornerstone of the shipping industry’s green transformation.
Mr Jin, CRRC Qishuyan Institute
A truly memorable day for the development of the rotor sail industry at CRRC Qishuyan Institute. In 2021, we began cooperating with Anemoi on key components of rotor sails. By 2024, both parties reached a strategic consensus on the rotor sail industry, establishing an in-depth collaboration covering design, R&D, production, testing, and product services, achieving a powerful alliance. The new rotor sail manufacturing base is an initial outcome of this strategic cooperation.
Mr. Situ, Daming Heavy Industries
“The journey of the rotor sail—from blueprint to successful shipment—would not have been possible without the close collaboration and efficient coordination among the three parties.”
Mr Sun Wei, Zhongfu Lianzhong Composites
“The powerful partnership between Anemoi and Zhongfu Lianzhong demonstrates the tremendous potential of collaborative innovation across the industry chain—from technology R&D to engineering application, from core components to system integration.”
