Daming International Deepens Strategic Partnership with WISCO

On August 19, a high-level delegation from Daming International, led by Chairman Zhou Keming, visited Wuhan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. (WISCO), a subsidiary of Baosteel in Wuhan, marking another milestone in the long-standing strategic cooperation between the two steel industry leaders.

Exploring Innovation in Silicon Steel Production

Accompanied by WISCO executives, the Daming delegation toured the WISCO New Energy Non-Oriented Silicon Steel Digital Center and the silicon steel production line. During the visit, they gained in-depth insights into WISCO’s advanced silicon steel manufacturing capabilities, including production capacity, automated processes, and digital innovation strategies. These efforts are central to WISCO’s ambition to become the world’s leading silicon steel brand, underpinned by green development and technological advancement.

The Daming delegation included President Liang Zongren, Assistant to the President Zhang Jun, Group Technical Director Wang Xiaojian, Group Carbon Steel Division General Manager Jiang Suiqiang, Jingjiang Daming General Manager Deng Liangfeng, Hubei Daming General Manager Zhu Haibin, Hubei Daming Carbon Steel Sales Director Jia Rui, and Group Supply Department Deputy Director Shi Feng.

The group was warmly welcomed by Peng Jun, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of Baosteel Group, as well as Liu Luchang, Deputy General Manager and Director of the Technology Center of WISCO. Other key leaders present included Lü Cheng (Cold Rolling Mill Director), Yan Naizhong (Silicon Steel Department Director), Cai Haibin (Deputy Director of the Hot Rolling Mill), Ou Peng (Deputy Director of the Manufacturing Management Department), and Sun Jie (Deputy General Manager of Baosteel International Central China Company).

Strengthening Cooperation Across the Value Chain

In the follow-up discussion, Chairman Zhou Keming introduced Daming International’s comprehensive steel service capabilities, its investment in smart manufacturing infrastructure, and its value-added services for downstream customers across sectors such as shipbuilding, engineering machinery, and power equipment.

 

He emphasized Daming’s focus on:

  • Intelligent steel processing
  • Automated production lines
  • Digitally integrated operations
  • Daming has made significant investments in the Riverside terminal, specifically in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, with the aim of streamlining logistics and cutting expenses.

Chairman Zhou also discussed Daming’s growing efforts in parts exports, its processing and roll-forming services for silicon steel, and its collaborative history with WISCO in the specialty steel sector. Looking ahead, Daming aims to further enhance its capabilities in precision silicon steel fabrication to meet rising demand from the new energy, automotive, and electrical equipment industries.

During the meeting, Secretary Peng Jun shared insights into WISCO’s development strategy and operational achievements. He highlighted WISCO’s pivotal role within the China Baowu Steel Group, particularly in spearheading specialty steel innovation across its Yangtze River-based facilities.

 

With 95% end-users, WISCO is committed to driving growth through collaborative innovation and high-end product delivery. Secretary Peng emphasized the potential to deepen cooperation with Daming, especially in riverside logistics collaboration, including the use of Daming Wharf, to streamline transport and reduce delivery time and cost.

 

Collaborating for Mutual Growth: Future Focus Areas

 

The two sides engaged in forward-looking discussions on expanding cooperation in the following areas:

  • Project-based development of steel products tailored for key industries
  • Construction machinery steel solutions
  • High-performance ship plates
  • Hydropower yoke steel
  • High-strength hot-rolled steel
  • Precision cold-rolled product development

Both sides also showed interest in working with the Wuhan Iron and Steel Research Institute to create a combined approach for production, research and development, sales, and application. This approach will help them respond faster to customer needs, transfer technology. This model will allow for more agile responses to customer demands, more efficient technology transfer, and enhanced downstream service delivery.
