Anemoi Rotor Sail Project Officially Launched at Daming Heavy Industry

Marking a major milestone in the advancement of wind-assisted propulsion technology, Anemoi Marine Technologies officially launched its 3.5x24m Rotor Sail Project at the Daming Heavy Industry Manufacturing Base.

The ceremony was attended by key industry leaders, including Situ Shunxin, Vice Chairman of Daming Heavy Industry Group; Jin Guozhong, Deputy General Manager and Chief Engineer of CRRC Qishuyan Research Institute; and Nick Contopoulos, Chief Operating Officer and Director of Anemoi UK, all of whom delivered remarks highlighting the significance of this collaboration.

This project not only marks the continuation of Anemoi’s successful rotor sail initiatives but also represents its strategic expansion into a new vessel segment—from bulk carriers to chemical tankers—signaling the company’s formal entry into the rapidly evolving tanker market.

Advancing Wind-Assisted Propulsion Through Strategic Collaboration

Nick Contopoulos emphasized the significance of this transition:

“The successful initiation of this project opens new frontiers for Anemoi. As we move into the tanker sector, we recognize both the challenges and opportunities ahead. However, with strong partners like Daming and CRRC Qishuyan, we are confident in our ability to lead the way in clean shipping innovation.”

As wind propulsion becomes an increasingly vital component of sustainable maritime operations, Anemoi continues to invest in data-driven R&D. Its proprietary performance prediction models have been continuously refined over the past decade. Now, bolstered by CRRC Qishuyan’s deep expertise in materials science, Daming’s advanced manufacturing, and high-end equipment, Anemoi is delivering rotor sails with the same standard of engineering excellence found in China’s high-speed rail systems.

Daming Heavy Industry: Manufacturing Excellence Meets Global Demand

Daming Heavy Industry plays a critical role in the project, providing comprehensive steel structure manufacturing and terminal services. With world-class steel processing facilities, a modern physical and chemical testing center, and advanced cutting and forming platforms, Daming ensures the highest levels of product quality and delivery reliability.

Drawing on experience from prior successful collaborations on the 2011 and 2012 rotor sail projects, Daming once again demonstrates its capabilities in large-scale industrial manufacturing, core technology execution, and project management excellence. The company’s ability to consistently deliver on schedule and to high standards positions it as a crucial partner in the global expansion of wind-assisted propulsion systems.

Strengthening Partnerships, Shaping the Future

Reflecting on the journey so far, Jin Guozhong of CRRC Qishuyan noted:

“The first project was a challenging yet rewarding six months. It succeeded due to the trust and synergy among all three partners. As we advance, we will refine our project management, deepen technical collaboration, and continue to integrate our strengths to build the world’s most competitive rotor sail supply chain.”

The launch of this new rotor sail initiative not only reinforces the strategic partnership between Anemoi, Daming, and CRRC Qishuyan, but also sets a new benchmark for cross-border collaboration in the clean energy marine sector. It strengthens Anemoi’s leadership in rotor sail technology and reinforces its commitment to driving the maritime industry toward a greener, more sustainable future.
