Hangzhou Daming Completes Large-Format Laser Cutting for EH36 Shipbuilding Steel

Hangzhou Daming has completed the laser cutting of a batch of EH36 high-strength crack-arresting steel components for a shipbuilding application. The project involved oversized plates measuring up to 3.8 meters wide and 10 meters long, requiring processing beyond the working range of many conventional laser cutting systems.

The customer approached Daming after learning about its large-format laser cutting capabilities. Daming’s equipment is designed to handle oversized plates, with a maximum cutting width of 4.5 meters and a maximum cutting length of 26.5 meters, providing sufficient capacity for the required dimensions.

The main processing challenge was not only the size of the plates, but also the high number of piercing operations required. Technical assessment indicated that each plate would involve more than 3,600 piercings, increasing the risk of heat accumulation, residual stress and thermal deformation. To maintain dimensional accuracy throughout the cutting process, Daming’s production and engineering teams worked together to fine-tune cutting parameters and optimize the sequence and paths of the cutting program.

The optimized process enabled the large-format components to be completed within the required dimensional tolerances and quality standards. The result was positively recognized by the customer and further demonstrated Daming’s ability to process oversized, high-strength steel components for demanding shipbuilding applications.
