On January 6, the No. 10 LNG storage tank of the largest LNG (liquefied natural gas) reserve base in China, CNOOC Yancheng “Green Energy Port”, completed precooling and successfully filled with liquid, marking the successful commissioning of CNOOC’s first independently developed, designed and built 270,000 cubic meters LNG storage tank with the largest single tank capacity in the world.

This operation verified the safety and reliability of the key technical indicators of the storage tank, and provided a good reference for the engineering application of 270,000 cubic meters of LNG storage tanks in China, indicating that my country’s ultra-large volume LNG storage tank design and construction technology has reached the world’s leading level. The 270,000 cubic meter LNG storage tank adopts CGTank® storage tank core technology with independent intellectual property rights of CNOOC. The tank has a diameter of over 100 meters and a height of about 65 meters. It can stack three C919 large aircraft at the same time. The volume is equivalent to 614 standard swimming pools. It can store 119,000 tons of LNG, which can provide two months of living gas for 22 million residents, equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 200,000 tons. It will provide new momentum and new advantages for national energy security and regional energy supply.

The 270,000 cubic meter LNG storage tank has extremely high safety requirements and the design and construction process is very complex. It is one of the cutting-edge technologies in the energy field. my country is one of the few countries in the world that can carry out the design and construction of ultra-large LNG storage tanks.

From pile foundation construction, outer tank pouring, air pressure lifting, inner tank and cold insulation installation, water pressure and air pressure test, nitrogen replacement, to the final mechanical completion and pre-cooling start-up, every step is full of challenges.

At present, the market share of 270,000 cubic meters LNG super-large storage tanks constructed with CNOOC CGTank® independent technology has reached 71%, ranking first in the world. The commissioning of the first 270,000-cubic-meter LNG storage tank further consolidates CNOOC’s leading position in the LNG industry.

In addition, during the critical period of natural gas supply in winter, the newly commissioned 270,000 cubic meters of LNG storage tanks will also effectively increase the total LNG reserves of CNOOC Yancheng “Green Energy Port”, adding “confidence” for emergency peak regulation.

At present, the process equipment and facilities of CNOOC Yancheng “Green Energy Port” have been debugged and entered an efficient and safe standby state. They are making full efforts in LNG reserves, tank truck transportation and pipeline gas sup

ply, and are making a good “combination punch” to ensure the supply of gas during the peak period of winter gas consumption, resolutely defending the warm “defense line”, and contributing to the natural gas supply and energy structure optimization and upgrading in East China.

Daming LNG tank prefabrication service strength

Compared with traditional small and medium-sized LNG storage tanks, the design and construction difficulties of large LNG storage tanks have increased exponentially while the capacity and size have increased. Based on the project delivery plan and actual material delivery, relying on rich experience in 9Ni steel processing and the performance advantages of advanced equipment such as Linsinger automatic milling machine, Daming actively cooperated with Taigang to complete the prefabrication of the inner tanks of two 220,000 m³ and four 270,000 m³ LNG storage tanks in the first phase with high quality and efficiency, with a total processing volume of 13,800 tons.

At present, Daming has served more than 70 LNG tanks and more than 100,000 tons of material prefabrication processing, covering more than 40% of LNG receiving terminals from Guangxi to Caofeidian, Tianjin, and has gained the unanimous recognition and thanks from LNG project sites, and will gradually develop overseas LNG projects and land-based LNG receiving terminals in the future.
